It was a pity party. There's really no other term for it. Bob Souer was working at a radio station in the west suburbs of Chicago and he was feeling sorry for himself, big-time. You see, the boss had taken the entire staff of the station out to lunch. But, Bob, because he was "on the air," had to stay behind. The manager had even taken the receptionist, so along with running the controls for the station, he even had to answer the phone. Which, as it turned out, was rather providential.

Because, while Bob was sitting there feeling sorry for himself, indulging in his little pity party, one of the calls that came to the station that day was from a man looking for a professional announcer to audition for a major recording project he was bidding on.

Bob auditioned for that job, and was hired for what became his first professional voice-over client, the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois. All these years later, Bob is still working with Fermilab, as they are known.
