My thanks to Marsha Loftis for pointing me to this quiz. It’s only going to be of value if you’re from the USA as they’ve not included results that apply to any other English speaking country. I did think, given my occupation, that the results were interesting.
What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland
“You have a Midland accent” is just another way of saying “you don’t have an accent.” You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. |

LOL!!! those were the same results I received. I’m thinkin this thing isn’t very scientific or accurate…or is it? 🙂
Bob says
Marsha,
Actually, after listening to your voice, I think our accents are pretty similar.
In my case, I’ve worked hard to adopt a neutral Midland accent after having grown up in Minnesota and (at one time) having a strong North Central accent. I see this test as validation that I’ve made the progress I’ve wanted to make.
Be well,
Bob

When I was younger I had a strong country accent, you could definitely tell I was from Tennessee. I was teased so much when I first entered the Air force that I practiced and practiced trying not to sound as if I was a hick from the backwoods. I revert back sometimes. 🙂
Bob says
Marsha,
Yes, the reverting back thing. I have to be careful when I talk with my family or I’ll start to pick up that Minnesooota sound again.
Be well,
Bob
