Gary Terzza is a voiceover talent and coach based in the UK. On his voiceover blog he writes about what’s really required to deliver the goods as a voiceover artist.
I suggest you read the whole thing, it’s not long; but here are a couple of key lines…
Voice-overs are all about bringing a script to life…voice-overs come from the mind not the larynx.

Great Post
It also boils down to this. Sighted individuals constantly rely on visual aspects of communication. From body language and facial expression, to mannerisms and movement, what we “see” in communication lends to what we hear. Actors in film, television and Theater have the advantage of visual aspects of communication.
A voice actor, however, must rely solely on their voice to effectively communicate the copy. Most new voice actors, or old-school voice actors I have encountered as a producer and trainer need to be pushed to exaggerate to the point of sounding natural.
Most any producer will always prefer a slightly overdone initial performance, compared to a performance that comes off flat.
So…Put You Head Into It!
