With thanks to my friend Chris Eder for posting the links on his blog, I read a couple of really thought-provoking posts today on Peter O’Connell’s blog and on a blog new to me called The D-Ring, written by military public relations specialist Steve Field.
I started this blog because I love to write and I wanted to give myself an outlet for writing that would also help me connect with other like-minded souls: other voiceover talent.
I also want to connect with the producers, writers, agents, studio engineers and others who are part of our world of voiceover because they hire or refer us. At the same time, like Peter says in his post, I’m really just writing this for you and me. Because we’re the only 2 people here.
Peter says he is concerned that his posts might be too long. I wonder if you think my posts are too short most of the time? Let me know. Comments are open.
Audiogal says
No, Bob, your posts are just right. Short & sweet. I like the fact that you post short entries often, rather than long ones infrequently.
Bob says
Mary,
Thank you. Since you’re a world-class expert on short and sweet, I very much appreciate your comment.
Be well,
Bob

Coincidentally, just a few weeks ago I was thinking about the length of your blog posts. I was weighing the pros and cons of writing my own voiceover blog, and one of my first concerns was whether I could be prolific enough to justify writing a blog. When I started thinking about all of the blogs I read regularly (voiceover and otherwise), it occurred to me that your blog probably has the shortest posts. But because your blog also tends to be among the most informative, I had never noticed the brevity of your posts before. You pack a lot of helpful insight and information into those posts, and you don’t write any more than is necessary to get the point across. I think that’s the mark of a good communicator.

Bob-
I hope you know…you’re making everyone better! The family and I launched a new blog today, and then I “branded” a few others. Here is the new line up: Broadcast This!, Do This!, Taste This!, Green This!, and Kasbah Radio. I hope these new niche blogs will better focus my writing and bring in new readers. On the bad side…I added BlogRush too soon and they were declined becuase there was no content. I now have to wait 30-days to resubmit.
Your Friend,
Chris
Bob says
Chris,
Thanks for the updates. I wish you well in all these efforts.

Bob,
We read different blogs for different reasons. I enjoy yours to follow your career, but also for its quick posting of ideas and advice. It’s just right!

Peter,
I don’t know. I was hoping you could tell me.

i don’t notice a problem. when you’re making reference to something you’ve noted and you think it might be useful, you let us know about it and provide a link. when you’re relating something that needs more time to tell the story, you take more space.
it’s a format i’m still hoping to master for my own stuff, which so far has been in ‘short novel’ mode.
keep on keepin on.
Bob says
Rowell,
Yes, but such tasty short novels they are. Thank you for the very kind comments.

Your post lengths are perfectly bite-sized for the contemporary short attention span like mine.
I struggle with being succinct in type – you have mastered the art of it.
Bob says
Nancy,
Thank you. Though truth be told, I struggle with being succinct in my speech more than in my writing…but then you already knew that.
🙂
Be well,
Bob
