My friend Willie Edwards (who lives just an hour up the road from me in North Carolina) wrote some time back about a Do-It-Yourself project building Sound Absorption Panels.
Recently he’s received and replied to some correspondence about those panels on his VO Mic Test blog. I think you might find the exchange valuable and enlightening, especially if you need to tame the sound in your home studio.
Update: In case you don’t see the comments below, my friend Greg Houser mentions a site to checkout called Clearsonic.com.
Greg says
Clearsonic.com also manufacturers some top rate absorption panels for the cost of what it would take to build these (actually, depending on pricing, the sorber panels from Clearsonic might be cheaper).
Also, there’s a great thread from the VO-BB on a different method of panel design using hollow-core doors and foam.
Of the two, I think that the link you have on your blog might be the most effective of the DIY techniques.

Greg,
Thank you for that heads up about Clearsonic.com. Something worth checking out, for sure.

That is a really great budget panel design. The last treatment I did was with mineral wool, which was …troublesome … to work with.

Juan,
Yes, Willie is an amazing guy. Wonderfully resourceful and inventive, not to mention very talented. I’m grateful to call him a friend.
Be well,

Hello:
I’ve built a home theater in my basement in a 20’X14’room with no windows. I’m using 9 Definitive Technology speakers in a 7.1 channel setup with a Yamaha VX-V2700 receiver. Five of the speakers are powered and I have a coffered ceiling that, if not creating an echo, hasn’t made it any better. So I need to have sound absorption panels. Do you know where I can find any plans for them on the internet? I’ve heard that you can use fiberglass insulation mounted on plywood. Any thoughts or direction would be appreciated!

Vernon,
In this blog post to which you’ve added your comment (thank you, by the way) there is a link to my friend Willie Edwards’ site which has just such a set of plans. I hope that’s helpful.
Be well,
Bob
