RIP Les Paul

General, People

No, he wasn’t a voice actor; but Les Paul’s innovation with multi-track recording has touched all of our lives.

My thanks to my friend Liz de Nesnera for posting the link to this video on the VO-BB.

Sweet music, I enjoyed it. The most important part of that piece was the introduction and the truth of it identifies how so many of us Voice Overists have taken our eye off the ball.
“First and foremost they are musicians”. Technology allows me to introduce a CNN special to someone in New York while I’m sound asleep in Portgordon. First and foremost I’m talking to someone the way people have been doing for years.

    Philip,
Exactly right. Technology provides the tools, but one still has to be able to deliver the goods when the session is taking place.
    Be well,
    Bob

    Bob,
It’s a shame that so few people realize the scope of Les Paul’s contribution to everything recorded today. The makers of those big, multi-million-dollar mixing consoles, the casual “iPod” listener, as well as guitarists, home recordists and many others – are all indebted to his genius.

    Dan,
No question, he was a giant.
    Be well,
    Bob
