Yesterday afternoon I was sitting in my studio at home, waiting in between takes of a commercial session over ISDN, when it hit me like a ton of bricks: I get to do this (voiceover work) for a living! What an amazing flood of joy and delight poured through me at that moment. Now, I don’t write about me every day here because I like to share the spotlight with my friends; but I just had to put this into words today.
Telling stories for people is a great experience. It doesn’t matter if it’s a documentary, a television commercial or an eLearning project. I love my job! I’m so grateful for every one of my clients. Thank you for indulging me and reading.

When I moved to Dallas at the invitation of a jingle and voiceover producer, who later would become Elvis Presley’s drummer (Ronnie Tutt) I was a singer actor on the road (7 years out) and desperate for something steady where I did not have to travel. Dallas worked and I worked. I went on staff at a production house singing jingles and doing voiceovers 9-1 every day M-F and had a steady paycheck. I cut my teeth on that. Then I started to produce and audio engineer and write copy and jingle lyrics and then became an RCA Recording Artist and songwriter and well, making wads of money. My children attended private schools, later, pricey colleges. My husband and I enjoyed vacations, building on our house, all sorts of things in a lifestyle never possible without studio singing or voiceovers. I’ve had a great career. Thirty years now. AFTRA and SAG made me money too and despite the sort of anti union climate nowadays, I credit my union membership with the money and now the pensions and insurances we enjoy! Yes we are blessed. And I love teaching. Always have. As a university professor and workshop presenter, private speech dialect coach, that is also a blessing. You are too, Bob. Love your blog.
