Curious about MXL microphones?

General, Tools

George Whittam provides a video and audio tour MXL microphones as they are on display at Winter NAMM.

Too bad about the video going out part way through, but an interesting tour none-the-less.

Hi, Bob. I just discovered your blog; I’m looking forward to digging deeper.
MXL had some interesting stuff at NAMM. The Genesis (the red tube mic in the Youtube video) is really intriguing, by which I mean, I want one. Or, you know, two.
They have a new FET condenser designed for vocals too, called the Gold 35. I would expect the Gold 35 to be more appropriate for VO use due to its somewhat lower self-noise rating (~14dBA as compared to the tube mic’s 18dBA).
Anyway, both made it into my roundup of new microphones at NAMM, along with some new ribbons and SDCs.
I didn’t buy anything that weekend, but my shopping list sure got longer.

      Matt,
Thank you for adding to the conversation. I must say, you’re running a very cool site of your own.
      Be well,
      Bob
