Reality TV comes to voiceover?

General

Yes. This is either good news or bad news depending on your point of view. Check out the article at VoiceOverXtra for details. (Thanks, John Florian for the email.)

    Bob,
Thanks for passing along the info. Fascinating. I’m not a fan of the “reality” (so-called) genre of TV programming, I can see the two new VO-themed shows doing very well, attracting the interest of all those folks who’ve been told, “You have a great voice.”
Given the crowded nature of the field as it exists today, bet we’ll see a whole bunch of VO talents hanging out shingles offering their services as teachers/coaches/mentors. Perhaps those who are already established in the field (e.g., Nancy, Susan, Pat, etc.) will start offering franchises to their best students, in the same way that Roy Williams established “Wizard of Ads” offices around the world.
Going to be a game-changer, that’s for sure.
    Best,
    Rod

Interesting for sure… but I think I’ll just quietly keep doing what I’m doing, nurture the business relationships I have, and enjoy a pretty cool career. There’s lots of work out there. Find your niche.

    Rod,
Thank you for your cogent comments. And Deb, I’m with you.
    Be well,
    Bob

    Bob,
I’d have been surprised had you said that YOU were going to jump on the training bandwagon, not for a lack of credentials or ability but inclination. You’ve already carved out a great niche for yourself doing what you do. No doubt there are many other VO artists who, like you and Deb, are happy with their current situations.
Still, I’m guessing there will be more than a few folks who decide to expand their services to include training or other resources to aspiring voiceoverists.
