My friend Dan Nachtrab is the featured voiceover for this video. You have to wait a little over 2 minutes to hear the voiceover. The good news is that while you’re waiting those 2 minutes, you get a wonderful preview of Toy Story 3.
Great job, Dan!
If you have a voiceover blog and you’re planning to attend VOICE 2010, VoiceOverXtra would like to link to your blog. Let John Florian know (info@voiceoverxtra.com) that you are going. More information is here.
No, this isn’t a blog post about a wedding. Yesterday was a very interesting day for me, kind of a 90s day. It started with a session at a recording facility in Pittsburgh. While I do most of my work in my own studio, I do get called to go for sessions at someone else’s studio now and then. What was especially interesting was that I also had an audition to do at another studio. Now, my friends who do on-camera work (like Pam and Amy) do auditions in a casting office or a studio all the time; but I haven’t been to a studio or casting office for an audition since sometime in maybe 2001?
The really interesting part happened as I was walking up to the studio. I was about 20 minutes early because the other session hadn’t taken very long. This is the scene I encountered when I got to about a half a block from the studio:
Yes, if you look closely at the back of that truck, it does say “Bomb Squad” on there. The nice police officer I met when I got to the police tape explained that I was probably going to be late for my appointment. I called my agent to let them know what was going on. They were as surprised as I was.
Thankfully it turned out to be a kid’s backpack left behind on a city bus and not a bomb. Everything was cleared with a few minutes to spare so I did do my audition. I’m not sure that I did all that great. It was kind of out of my range, but I wanted to do it because it has been so long since I did an audition like that. Not to mention, it was a lot of fun working on the audition with another talent in the room with me.
Then it was back home to a more “normal” rest of the day with a phone patch (some PBS promos) and an ISDN session (a medical narration), and some editing on an audiobook I’m recording. Oh, and an eLearning narration recording and …
What can I say? I love my job.

Mix Magazine takes note of the passing of Dr. Fritz Sennheiser, just a few days after his 98th birthday. My thanks to my friend Mary McKitrick for posting the link of the VO-BB.
My friend Chadd Pierce wrote, produced and voiced this … uh … parody PSA.
Brilliantly done, Chadd.
My friend Jeffrey Kafer hits one out of the park with his latest web comic at Voice-overload.
My friend Amy Snively is the female voiceover for this commercial.
Very nice work, Amy!
If you’ll be at Promax BDA 2010 in LA, don’t miss the Marice Tobias workshop “Directing Voice Talent” while you’re there. Marice will present twice, at the main conference on Wednesday, June 23 at 3:30 PM and again at Bootcamp on Thursday, June 24 at 2:00 PM. By the way, Marice is holding her annual post-Promax workshop in LA the Saturday and Sunday following (June 26 and 27, 2010). I think it may be sold out all ready, but if you’re going I look forward to seeing you there.
Beau Weaver tells the story of how he got started in animation voiceover work.
My friend Pablo Hernandez has an article at VoiceOverXtra about his efforts with AIRS-LATINO. If you speak Spanish, here’s your opportunity to give back.

My friend Bruce Miles does a superb job with the voiceover for St. Louis Zoo.
And …
Wonderful work, Bruce.
Two vitally important qualities. As my friend Mary McKitrick illustrates so beautifully on her blog, qualities that are highly valuable for voice actors.
My friend Karen Hutton is featured as the narrator of a beautiful new documentary called Echoes of Creation, releasing the 8th of June.
Fabulous work, Karen.

Over the last 14 years I’ve learned a ton from Dan O’Day that has been helpful to me and my voiceover business. What I appreciate most about Dan is that he teaches practical and highly usable information, not a bunch of stuff that’s so theoretical or esoteric to be of any real use.
Which is why I hope you’ll give serious thought to Dan’s new “Websites For Voice Actors Audio Seminar + Study Guide.” What can you expect from Dan’s audio seminar? Solid, usable information that will help you make the most of your voiceover website.
At VoiceOverXtra John Florian talks about the panel discussion he’s part of at VOICE 2010 that will focus on voice actors and the Internet. During that panel discussion, John will unveil the results of a survey on the subject of how voice actors use the Internet. The survey drew over a thousand responses.
Dan Hurst has written a wonderful blog he called A Voice Talent’s Prayer. I say a hearty AMEN!, Dan. I couldn’t put have it any better.
